June Updates and Hotel information

Greetings to all,

Can you believe it? We are almost there. Only a few more months left to register and purchase your sporting events, merchandise and most important your banquets. Yes, the banquets are almost sold out, and once that happens, the hotel will not let us add any more. So, if you have procrastinated till this point, now is the time.

As for the rest of the committees and convention updates, we are working out all of the details so that all of you can enjoy this convention. We are creating signs, so you will always know which way to go; meeting with volunteers, so you will always have somebody to ask if your unsure; working with our audio visual committee to ensure you can hear and see all of our wonderful speakers and gathering all of your input since this is YOUR convention.

The hotel room block is currently full, we are maintaining a wait list, please follow this linkhttps://forms.gle/sgikAZVsad9LdzAx5 to be added to the wait list.
In the past we have been able to place a good number of people from our wait list into rooms at the host hotel, usually in the few weeks just before the convention. However, in an effort to assure that you have a hotel room for the convention, we have negotiated with a couple of hotels close by for an “overflow room block”. This information is below… It would be our suggestion that you book a room at one of these hotels now, making sure to secure a cancellable reservation, so that if a room opens up at the host hotel you will be able to move over at that time. These hotels are within a mile of the Harbor Beach Marriott and will be included on our courtesy shuttle route during the convention.
Our overflow options are:
Best Western Plus Oceanside Inn – Room rate varies by night but the average per night is $160.50 – Parking is $15 per day, no resort fee. HOT/COLD Breakfast is INCLUDED

Click here to reserve a room at the Best Western
B Ocean Resort Fort Lauderdale: Room rate is $159 per night, Parking is $47 daily (overnight) – Resort fee has been waived
Click here to reserve a room at B Ocean

Courtyard Ft Lauderdale Beach: Room rate is $159 per night, Parking is $30 daily (overnight) – Resort fees have been waived

Click here to reserve a room at Marriott Courtyard

Can not wait to see all your smiling faces in a few months. Until then, continue to be Happy, Joyous and Free!

In Loving Service, Karen Valiquette, Your 65th Florida State Convention Chair

April Update

Greetings to all,

In just a few short months, we will all be at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa. For those who have never attended a convention, you are in for a treat. There is always some questions as to whether a convention is AA. Well, as long as the A.A. Guidelines are followed, the answer is YES.

What makes an A.A. convention click for its participants? It’s probably not style or form that matters so much as the spirit and feeling behind it. As one member puts it, the best A.A. convention is “just
a darned good A.A. meeting blown up big.” Just watch enthusiastic members at any A.A. convention and you’ll get what he means. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip. Here you’ll find fellowship, laughter, warmth, and understanding — “heaped up, pressed down, and running over.” excerpt from “MG-04 – A.A. Guidelines – Conference, Conventions and Roundups“.

Throw in some great entertainment, some sporting events, banquets and Ice Cream socials over and above the speaker meetings and workshops over the course of 5 days from August 3-7, 2022 and what you will experience will be beyond your wildest dreams. We get to experience all three legacies, Recovery, Unity and Service. Speaking of Service, has your home group volunteered for a slot in Hospitality? How about running one of the Marathon meetings? There is a service position for everyone, Greeters-you get to greet the attendees as they arrive at the hotel and throughout the 5 days, Registration-where you can assist each attendee to make sure they have what they need to attend this phenomenal convention, Merchandise-help the attendees with purchases of our unique memorabilia, Security-where you get to tell people where to go, in a welcoming way of course, and for those of you who have a little thespian in you, there is the service manual the musical, and lets not forget transportation-driving the shuttle, you will be the first to meet and greet these individuals on their way to the convention. There are more opportunities for service such as Yoga and Meditation, but you get the point. So if you haven’t already, fill out the volunteer form and let us know where you want to help out. click here for the volunteer form.

Our web site committee has been working on keeping the website updated and creating a mobile app for use once you arrive at the convention. They also have put together a sweet app to assist us in the planning stages. It contains, event flyers, links, agendas and minutes. If you want this app. Just scan the QR code below or click this link 65th FSC Planning App and then add it to your phone’s desktop. For instructions click here instructions

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope to see you in August!!!

Happy March

Volunteers, yes, I said volunteers.  We have over 30 committees and most need dozens of volunteers each.  Have you signed up to volunteer yet?  If not click here to sign up and find out how much fun service for a state convention can be.  Not only do we need individual volunteers, we have opportunities for your home group to get involved also.  Groups are needed for the Marathon Meetings and for Hospitality.

Last month we talked about the sporting events, remember they all take place Saturday morning of the convention, rain or shine.  The winners will all be recognized Saturday evening after the banquet before the speaker meeting.

This month I want to remind you all about our food events, Friday night and Saturday night we have a banquet.  Click here to purchase your meal tickets.  Those who purchase tickets for the banquet, get seats closer to the speaker.  The sooner you purchase your ticket the better chance you have for a great seat at the meeting.  The tickets are going fast.  We have less than 100 left from Friday night and Saturday night is selling fast also.  And don’t forget the Ice Cream Social.  That takes place right after the meetings on Friday and Saturday nights.  Remember everyone has to be registered to attend any event at the convention, that includes the meals.

If you have already registered and now want to add your meals, or maybe some merchandise, just sign into your account and place your order.  Once you get to the convention, you will pick up your packet and all of your items will be there waiting for you.

I am humbled and honored to be your Chair for this convention and look forward meeting you all. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at chair2022fsc@gmail.com.

February updates

Hello convention goers. I am excited to tell you that we are back on track to put on another great convention at the beautiful Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa. We did have a little hiccup, but with God’s help and the cooperation of the folks at the hotel, we were able to get resolution. Just to ease the minds of anyone who may have heard, there will be some construction at the hotel, but it will be put on hold during our convention and we will not lose any of our meeting space or guest rooms.

If our trends continue we may break past attendance records. Thanks to you all. But in order to do that, we need to continue to get the word out. We are getting close to selling out of the Friday banquet and more than half of the Saturday banquets have been sold. So, if you have procrastinated about purchasing the meals, now is the time.

Let’s talk about our sporting events, Golf, Walk/Run, Beach Volleyball and new to the Florida State Convention Cornhole. Did you know that there are cornhole tournaments? I watched a few of them that were televised. Who knew how popular this sport is. Our unique 2 mile Walk/Run is held on the beach; and we all know how much more challenging walking and running in sand can be. Beach Volleyball, well what can I say about that. We have had great tournaments in past conventions and I am sure this year will be similar. Finally, there is the Golf Tournament. This year it will be held at the Pompano Municipal Golf course same as last time in 2018. Who will be taking home the coveted Coffee Pot Trophy?

Besides all the activities, we will have meditation on the beach in the mornings. Last time, there were close to 100 sea turtle hatchlings that joined the meditation meeting on Thursday morning on their way to the ocean.

Want to volunteer? Just click here Volunteer Form, fill out the form and you will be contacted by our volunteer coordinator. We do have 30+ committees, so something for everyone. The convention is just the icing on the cake, the fun is being a part of putting it all together. Not only are you doing service, but the fellowship is awesome.

I am humbled and honored to be your Chair for this convention and look forward meeting you all. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at chair2022fsc@gmail.com.

2022 Is Here

Happy 2022 everyone!  Oh my, it is 2022 it is getting real now.  I hope you all had a happy, safe and sober holiday season.  With the major holidays behind us, it’s time to hit the road running.  All of our committees are ramping up.  We are back to meeting monthly for our planning meetings, and each of the committees are starting to meet.  So much to do……putting on a convention has a lot of moving parts, we have the obvious things like registration, program and merchandise.  There is also all the behind the scenes stuff.  So many other committees that are still looking for volunteers. Ever wonder how all of this comes together to be a sober and fun filled 5 days?  Come and join us at our planning meeting and be a part of the best kept secret in sobriety.  SERVICE!!! So, as you can see there is still lots to do.   Lots of fun, fellowship and laughter all while doing service.

Along with our Speakers, Workshops and Marathon meetings we are planning on having some great entertainment every night, along with our Saturday morning sports events, which now include Corn Hole.  We will still have beach Volleyball and our unique beach walk run along with the official convention golf tournament where some lucky foursome will take home the coveted coffee pot trophy.  We will also have our Archives room to look at some of the history of Alcoholics Anonymous. Rumor is, there may be more than just our local archives display there.

Some may wonder where does the money come from to put on such an awesome event.  Well, that comes from your registration fees.  Registering early gives us the funds needed to have everything ready for you when you arrive.  Your packet will be ready, with your badge, your pre ordered merchandise and everything you will need to find your way around the hotel and make it to your favorite speaker, workshop, hospitality room for fellowship or even go to the beach or pool. We will be ready for you!

I know some of you were not able to reserve your room at the Harbor Beach Marriott.  Don’t worry we have a waitlist for rooms as they come available.  We also have a few overflow hotels very close by.  Below are links to these overflow hotels. Please know that we fully expect rooms in the Harbor Beach Marriott to be come available as we get closer to our event.  So we recommend that if you do choose to make reservations elsewhere you make sure it is cancellable.

Click here to reserve a room at B Ocean

Click here to reserve a room at Marriott Courtyard.

So that’s all from me for now.  If you have any questions, go to our private Facebook group where Bill and Bob seem to make appearances every now and then.  You can just post your question and one of our volunteers will be happy to answer you.  Or feel free to contact me directly at chair2022fsc@gmail.com.   If we don’t know the answer, we will find it for you.

Best Wishes for a great 2022.

Your 65th Florida Convention Chair,

Karen Valiquette (just another alcoholic doing service)

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays to everyone however you celebrate, from all of us at the 65th Florida State Convention.  We are all taking a little time off to be with friends and family so there is no planning meeting this month.  But fear not, we will be back in full swing come January 22nd for our next planning meeting.  Here is the link for the flyer with all the information.

Now that the holiday season is upon us, we know you want to get the best gifts for your sponsees and friends.  So how about a registration?  Or maybe a full package?  And of course, the sporting events to maybe work off some of those calories from the holidays.  Even though you will not get your merchandise order until you check in at the convention, these items also make great gifts.   We are looking forward to a spectacular event in August 3-7, 2022, hope to see you all.

A few words about the Hotel, the host hotel is full at the moment, but we do have the waitlist and two hotels close by that are working with us as overflow hotels. If you have already put your name on the waitlist, you will be receiving an email shortly with the overflow hotel information.  If you have not gotten on the waitlist yet please use this link to get your name on there.  Here is the link for the waitlist

Important Updates

Happy October!

Here are some updates that may interest you.  First, we are 90% full at the hotel.  This is unprecedented, but welcomed.  As a result, we have been working on setting up a few overflow hotels. More information on these will be available as we get closer.  When you go to reserve your room, you may get a message stating that rooms are not available during that time.    In the event that you are unable to book your room for the nights you want, go ahead and book what is available and then go to the link below to be put on the waitlist for the nights you were unable to book due to availability.

Although it is surely important to get your room reserved, please don’t forget to register.  Early registration helps us to be able to pay our expenses.  And remember the banquets are limited and the persons who get their banquet tickets early, get the better seating for the meeting.  So, it’s a win win!

Our committees are very busy getting things ready for you all.  One of the committees, the Marathon Meeting Committee is looking for groups to fill time slots throughout the convention.  This is one of the many opportunities to not only do service, but have fun doing it with your home group.  Download and fill out the form below to get your home group involved.  Don’t miss out on the FUN!
